Japji Sahib : SGGS Ji : Ang - 5

ਕੇਤਿਆ ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਸਦ ਮਾਰ ।।

ੲੇਹਿ ਭੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ।।

ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਰ, ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਭੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੇ ਹਨ। (ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ! ਇਹ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਹੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ੲਿਹਨਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।

So many endure distress, deprivation & constant abuse. Even these are your gifts, O great Giver! (Because it is due to these sorrows that one follows your path).

ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਮਾਣਿਕਾ
ਅੰਮਿ੍ਤ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾੳੁ ।।

ਅਾਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਤੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੈ।

Ambrosial name of Lord is a gem, a jewel, a pearl.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਰੋਵੈ ।।

ਭਾਣੇ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਾ ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤੇ ਕਲਪਣਾ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

Not understanding Lord's command, one cries out in terrible pain.

ਹਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਹਾਂ ਇਕ ਦਮੀ ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ।।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨਵੈ ਤਿਸੇ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਣਾ।।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਅਸੀਂ ਆਦਮੀ ਇਕ ਦਮ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹਾਂ ਕੀ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ ੲਿਹ ਦਮ ਕਦੋਂ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਏ? ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਵਕ਼ਤ ਕਦੋਂ ਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ ? (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ - ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੋ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸੁਅਾਸ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।

We are human beings of the briefest moment; we do not know the appointed time of our departure. Says Nanak, serve the One, to whom our soul and breath of life belong.

ਤੇਰੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਅਾੳੂ ।।

ਤੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ੲਿਨਸਾਫ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ੲਿਨਸਾਫ ਹੈ ।

In your home there is justice forever and ever.
