ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰੋ।।

ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪੁੜ (ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼) ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਗਤ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ।

(ਮਾੲਿਅਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਐਬ ਜਾਂਚਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਧਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।।

O Nanak, what has happened to the world? There is no guide or friend. There is no love, even among brothers and relatives. For the sake of worldly pleasures, people have lost their faith.

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾੲੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਆ ਵਾਪਰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਜੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ, ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ੳੁਹਨਾ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।

Being engrossed in lust, anger, fraud, deception & laziness: O fool! you have wasted your life in slander and never remember the Lord in meditation.

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਝੂਠ ਨਿੰਦਾ ੲਿਨ ਤੇ ਅਾਪਿ ਛਡਾਵਹੁ ।।

ੲਿਹ ਭੀਤਰ ਤੇ ੲਿਨ ਕੳੁ ਡਾਰਹੁ ਅਾਪਨ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਹੁ।।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਝੂਠ ਨਿੰਦਾ (ਅਾਦਿਕ) ੲਿਹਨਾਂ (ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਾਪ ਛੁਡਾ ਲੈ। ਮੇਰੇ ੲਿਸ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ੲਿਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਦੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਾਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਲੈ।

Sexual desire, anger, greed, falsehood & slender please, save me from these vices, O Lord! Please eradicate these from within me & take me close to you.

ਮਾੲਿਅਾਧਾਰੀ ਅਤਿ ਅੰਨਾ ਬੋਲਾ।।

ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਸੁਣੲੀ ਬਹੁ ਰੋਲ ਘਚੋਲਾ।।

ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ) ਮਾੲਿਅਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਅਾਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋੲਿਅਾ ਹੈ ੳੁਹ (ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਅੰਨਾ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅੱਖ ੳੁਸ ਕੋਲ ਹੈ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ੳੁਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਧਿਅਾਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ), ਪਰ ਮਾੲਿਅਾ ਦਾ ਖਪਾੳੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੌਲਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਸੰਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

One who is attached to Maya (worldly riches) is totally blind & deaf towards the Guru. He does not listen to the world of the Shabad; but likes the uproar & tumult of Maya.
