ਪਰਾੲਿਅਾ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਅਟਕਲੈ 

ਅਾਪਣਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਵਧਾਵੈ।।

(ਮਾੲਿਅਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਐਬ ਜਾਂਚਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਧਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।।

One complains about other faults (picking holes in them), while his own self-conceit only increases.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੈਸੀ ਹੋੲੀ।।

ਸਾਲਕੁ ਮਿਤੁ ਨ ਰਹਿਓ ਕੋਈ।।

ਭਾਈ ਬੰਧੀ ਹੇਤੁ ਚੁਕਾੲਿਅਾ।।

ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਦੀਨੁ ਗਵਾੲਿਅਾ।।

ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਅਾ ਹੈ? ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਸਤਾ ਦੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਕਿਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਨਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਵੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ। ਦੁਨੀਆਂ (ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਈਮਾਨ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, what has happened to the world? There is no guide or friend. There is no love, even among brothers and relatives. For the sake of worldly pleasures, people have lost their faith.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji : SGGS Ji : 964

ਸਭੇ ਦੁਖ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਜਾਂ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਭੂਲੀਅੈ।।

ਜੇ ਕੀਚਨਿ ਲਖ ਉਪਾਵ ਤਾਂ ਕਹੀ ਨਾ ਘੁਲੀਅੈ।।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾੲੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਆ ਵਾਪਰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਜੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ, ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ੳੁਹਨਾ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।

When I forget you, I endure all the pains & sufferings. Making thousand of efforts, they are still not eliminated.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji : SGGS Ji : 473

ਜਾ ਰਹਣਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਅੈਤੁ ਜਗਿ

ਤਾ ਕਾੲਿਤੁ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਹੰਢੀਅੈ।।

ਜਦੋਂ ੲਿਸ ਜਹਾਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿੳੁਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ (ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਖਪੀੲੇ।

Since one is not destined to remain in this world anyway. Why should he ruin himself in pride?

Guru Teg Bahadar Ji : SGGS Ji : 1427

ਮਾੲਿਅਾ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਧਾਵਹੀ ਮੂਰਖ ਲੋਗ ਅਜਾਨ।।

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਨ।।

ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ, ਬੇਵਕੂਫ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਬੰਦੇ ਭੱਜੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਅਾਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ੳੁਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਬੇਅਰਥ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

For the sake of wealth, the fool & ignorant people run all around. Says Nanak, without meditating on the Lord, life passes away uselessly.
